Jeff Jenkins and his wife were animal lovers. That’s why, in honor of Jenkins’ memory, Fort Dodge Moose Lodge is hosting the first Jeff Jenkins Memorial Darts Tournament this Saturday.
All proceeds from the tournament and event will go to the Almost Home Humane Society of North Central Iowa.
“We held an event last year for them and raised about $1,500, plus lots of animal supplies,” said organizer Vicki Meyer.
The tournament entry fee is $10 per person and participants are encouraged to bring pet supplies to donate to the animal shelter.
Jenkins, who died in May 2021, was the administrator of Fort Dodge Moose Lodge, Meyer said.
“We will start this tradition every year, by organizing a darts tournament”, Meyer said. “This year, we will take advantage of Almost Home. I know they had heating problems. And next year we will see who is in need.
There will be a voluntary donation meal with bulk meat sandwiches, potato salad and fries during the tournament. There will also be a bake sale, 50/50 drawing and jello shots, Meyer said.
Registration for the tournament will begin at noon Saturday and competition will begin at 1 p.m. The tournament is open to the public, not just darts league members, Meyer said. Spectators are also welcome, she said.
“Come down, have fun and raise money for the animal shelter,” she says.
